Maximum Duration of a Telecom Contract and Tacit Renewal

Telecom contracts may have a maximum duration of 24 months. The law also allows you to enter into a telecom contract with an initial term of up to 12 months.

A telecom operator may replace a fixed-term or indefinite-term contract with a new fixed-term contract, provided it is in line with the terms agreed upon and applicable regulations. This does require your written consent. Without written consent, the original contract remains in effect and is converted to an indefinite-term contract at its expiration date.

When a fixed-term contract expires and is (tacitly) renewed, it automatically becomes an indefinite-term contract. The operator must inform you. An indefinite-term contract can be terminated free of charge at any time, with a notice period of no more than two months.

These rules apply to a consumer or a business with up to 9 employees.
