Means of Payment When Purchasing a Vehicle (Cash, Electronic Etc.)
Dealerships allow cash payments of up to 3,000 euros. There is no limit for cash payments between private individuals.
Traders may not charge additional fees for cash payments.
A dealer displaying a sign that cash payments are not accepted is violating the rules. They may not refuse your cash payment.
Dealers may refuse cash payments in case of exceptional and temporary security issues, but only if you are clearly informed in advance.
A dealer may reject banknotes if there is good reason to believe they are counterfeit.
The dealership must offer at least one electronic means of payment, regardless of the amount. A range of technical solutions can be used to satisfy this obligation, including contactless payment via smartphone, smartwatch, wire transfers, etc.
