Refusal to Provide (Free) Invoice
In most cases, a company is not required to provide an invoice to the consumer. This obligation only applies to transactions between companies (for VAT purposes) and to telecom and energy agreements. More information about invoicing is available on the FPS Finance website under the Accounting and Invoicing section.
If you request an invoice when it is not legally required, the company may charge you an administration fee. This cost should be informed in advance.
When the company has a legal obligation to provide an invoice, it may not charge you any fee for preparing it.
If you refuse an electronic invoice, the company may not charge you extra for sending you a paper invoice instead. However, the company can offer a discount to encourage the use of electronic invoicing.
Did you enter into a contract agreeing to electronic invoicing? If so, you will not receive a paper invoice and cannot refuse the electronic invoice. The company should ensure clear communication, so you can make an informed decision before agreeing.
Are you accustomed to paper invoices and then suddenly receive an electronic invoice without your consent? If this happens, you have the right to object.
