Tacit Renewal of Subscription
Your contract may include a tacit renewal clause, meaning your subscription will automatically continue after the expiration date.
The company must clearly inform you if an automatic renewal clause is included. This information should be displayed in bold letters, within a separate box, on the front of the first page of the agreement. You are required to be informed of the following:
- the consequences of automatic renewal;
- the deadline by which you can object to automatic renewal;
- how to object (for example, by registered letter).
After a tacit renewal, you should be able to cancel the subscription at any time without any charges. The notice period may not exceed two months. Termination rules (notice period, method of termination, etc.) are usually outlined in the general terms and conditions of the contract.
That rule applies only to service contracts and contracts that involve a combination of services and goods. The rule does not apply to contracts that only provide for the delivery of goods, such as a magazine subscription.
