Price Reduction: General Principle
Has a business announced a discount? The business must display the price it applied during the 30 days prior to the price reduction. The discount must be based on the lowest price from the previous 30 days (the reference price).
This obligation applies only when the business advertises a measurable discount, such as "10 % off." If no measurable discount is advertised, this rule does not apply. For example, it does not apply to phrases like "best/lowest price," "promo," round prices, bundled offers like "1+1 free," or conditional offers such as "second at half price." Also, the rule does not apply to perishable goods.
Any announcement of a discount must always be accurate, fair, and not misleading. Does it involve a new point of sale? In that case, the seller cannot advertise a price reduction, as there is no reference price. However, the vendor can charge launch prices, but only for a limited period of time.
What about products that have been on the market for less than 30 days? Their reference price is determined based on the lowest applied price in the 7 days before the price reduction.
